<div class="moz-cite-prefix">Jim. Really? That is the Westside Plant
and I'm afraid I am not modeling it, if for no other reason, wrong
era. I remember it under construction; however, there are other
reasons. It's not a customer, I barely have space to model
right-of-way, and it is a sewage treatment plant. To your point,
rivers tend to attract both rail lines and sewage treatment
plants, but I don't get the sense the latter draws much/any
attention from modelers. Who am I to start?<br>
<br>
That said, I am aware of the other plants by proximity to the main
line. Yes, the Bluestone Plant up Cypress Lane was replaced by
Westside and now augments as a surge holding facility – you asked.
The Ada Plant is located near the main on the East River.<br>
<br>
To loop back around to bridges, what attracted me to the Westside
Plant was the bridge behind it, the next one west of #834. Bridge
#835 was another unusual bridge, a ballasted concrete deck truss,
situated in the middle of a reverse curve, and was replaced
several years ago. Pictures of the prototype aren't handy, but the
truss work is finished:<br>

On a more distressing note, Smoke Show is out of business. What do
we do now for meet ups over pulled pork?<br>

<div>Thanks once again for your expertise! As always, your
answer has sparked another question in my mind. On Google
maps, if I follow Puritan road to the left (West) a quarter
mile I get to the big sewage treatment plant. However, if I
follow Cypress Lane under the bridge and South for just a bit,
I see what appears to be another, small sewage treatment
plant. Is this one still in use, or was it replaced by the
larger facility further West? Don't know that I have ever
seen anyone describe modeling such a plant. Will you be
doing this on your layout?</div>

This would be a westbound Elkhorn crew with empties out of
Bluefield at Bridge #834, a half mile down the hill from
the Bluefield, VA station. One of seven crossings of the
Bluestone River in less than a mile and a half, #834 is
somewhat unusual: a double-track, squared-off, thru-girder
with shared center girder in a unified single span. Thus,
the tall, "deep-dish" look for such a short span, to clear
a road below.<br>
