As the NW-Mailing-List approaches 30 years of existence, the time
has come to make some changes.

The Mailman software which has been running the list for over 21
years has become unsupportable. Complying with the increasing
number and complexity of anti-spam and other e-mail filters on the
Internet has reached a breaking point. Our provider Pair.com
announced that they will end support for mailing lists at the end
of this year.

After reviewing our options, we determined that groups.io is
our best option for continuing to maintain the NW-Mailing-List.
Groups.io expanded features such as file and photo sharing should
make the NW-Mailing-List a better tool for sharing our collective
knowledge and resources. Another consideration was that groups.io
will not resell our email addresses or target marketing material
to you.

Sometime Wednesday you will receive an email from
Groups.io notifying you that you have been added to the groups.io
NW-Mailing-List. A link is included in the email for logging in
and establishing an account password. (Yes another darn password!)
Fortunately you will not need the password to participate in the
NW-Mailing-List. Messages will continue to be email based although
now a web interface is available for those that prefer that
choice. The difference will be that emails will be sent to <nw-mailing-list@groups.io>
instead of to the nwhs.org domain.

As we make this transition, check your email spam settings
and make sure the address <nw-mailing-list@groups.io> is
whitelisted so you will see all the messages from the list.

If you are already using groups.io with the same e-mail address,
NW-Mailing-List will show up in Your Groups.
If you are new to groups.io, please click on the link included in
the email to establish a password to go with your email address.
This will unlock a web interface where you can customize the way
messages are sent and received from your account.

If you want to opt out of the new mailing list, email Ron at
<davis@nwhs.org> before noon on Wednesday. If you miss the
deadline, there will be a link in the groups.io email to
unsubscribe.

Thank you all for participating and contributing to this amazing
source of N&W/VGN information.
