Jim's right, I should have remembered the Freedom Train!  Sorry. I  have a 
faint memory of it when it stopped here in Lynchburg. I was very  young!  I 
found some negatives my mother made of it recently. They reified  my recollection 
of it being late afternoon because they are very underexposed.  It was 
runninng from east to west, toward Roanoke and the N&W steam engine  Jim mentioned 
must have pulled clear because there aren't any in these  negatives.
