The BLI new model of the J comes with spoked lead trucks.  These were replaced to solid lead trucks in the mid fifties when the perforation on the front of the shroud was done.  The new BLI run is the mid fifties  version only.  OMI brass Js were modeled for the late forties, early fifties, mid fifties, and excursion versions.  The 601 attached photo shows early J without perforation but with solid lead trucks. I am not sure if all Js received the perforation, but the new BLI's model all have this treatment.
I guess it is all how accurate one wants to model or how much one wants to correct a model for a specific time period.       http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nw/nw-s601asd.jpg
