My biggest problem with the Branchline coach (at least the one I have)
is that it has the later color scheme with a black roof and yellow
lettering, appropriate only for a couple of cars in branch line
service, which need stove chimneys added. For the era when such were
more numerous I can easily paint the roof brown with black weathering,
but stripping the yellow lettering without repainting the car side is a
challenge i have yet to tackle. The Bachmann Spectrum cars can be
de-lettered with rubber cement thinner, but I doubt that the Branchline
cars have the same pad printing formula.

Branchline makes the “single window” 78’ car kit in several road
names including N & W. You can build it a various levels of detail, but
it takes a lot of alteration to allow the trucks to swivel freely on
curves as broad as 32” r. F & C also made a resin Pg coach kit. The F &
C is probably the most accurate model of an N & W Pg, but by far is
also the most expensive! I have one F & C car just about to receive its
paint job and two Branchline cars waiting to be built. I don’t really
like the color on the Branchline cars, but after hearing all
considerations, I will leave it alone. Walthers makes a “paired window”
car painted for N & W which I haven’t seen yet. The other plus for
these cars compared to the Spectrum is the roof line. The PRR P-70s had
a distinctly lower clerestory roof. Eastern Car Works also made a P-70
painted for N & W. I put a new higher clerestory roof on mine which
helps to disguise the PRR look. Walthers has come out with new versions
of most of the heavyweight passenger cars they used to sell 45 years
ago – wooden bodies with metal sides and ends. I have one of their old
75’ single window coaches which I just recently built after all this
time. It is not quite as long as the N&W cars (or as long as the
Branchline, F & C, ECW, etc.) I wonder if they plan to come out with a
new version of a 75 – 80 foot single window coach.

I've done exactly as Marty suggests with my Spectrum coaches and
diner. The biggest issue with the Spectrum coach is that it's based on
the PRR P-70, which is a "paired window" car. The N&W Pg was a "single
window" car. Several recent offerings (e.g. Branchline, among others)
have the same issue. From six feet away 99% won't see the difference.
If that doesn't bother you, go for it!

The coach, combine, and diner all make decent stand-ins right out of
the
box. The coach is a PG, the combine a BPd, and the diner a DE. If you
wanted to make them closer, I'd probably start with the roofs of the
coach
and the combine by removing the vents on top. The biggest problem with
the
diner appears to be the doors. The model has them on opposite ends of
the
car, while the DE had both doors on the same end. The observation
needs
some major window alterations to even resemble an N&W business car.
