N scale Kato N&W passenger cars?

A friend of mine was asking about a set of N scale passenger cars he saw on Ebay.  They were lettered N&W, and described as being made by Kato.  He wanted to know more about the models, but I have not seen any information on them.  Did Kato at some point offer N&W passenger cars in N scale?  Were they a custom run for somebody?
