Lightweight coaches, class Pm, built 1941 for N&W by Pullman Standard. Both photos are of the original 1946 Powhatan Arrow. In image NS3963, the third car is a heavyweight diner class De, but the photo lab "airbrushed" its clerestory roof out of the picture. Not the only time publicity photos were doctored to make every car in a train look streamlined. When the new equipment for the Arrow arrived in 1949, all the cars were lightweight streamlined.
Looking at image 3681, you can see the dining car as it really existed.

  Subject: another passenger car question
Can anyone tell me what might these cars in the photo links be? They appear to be heavyweights, I am thinking coaches.
While going through the N&W image collection of VA-tech, I saw in these couple photos, http://spec.lib.vt.edu/imagebase/norfolksouthern/F1/NS3963.JPG and http://spec.lib.vt.edu/imagebase/norfolksouthern/F1/NS3681.JPG they do not appear to be much like the other cars run on the Arrow, but the N&W Modelling Guide gave no indication that the train ran anything except the three varieties of lightweight coaches, diner and observation cars.
  Thank you in advance
  Alvie
