N scale question

Although I don't have the N scale versions, several HO scale modelers 
have done the conversion, shortening the boiler by a bit and adding the 
shroud over the fireman-side air pumps. Rivet counters would also 
suggest rearranging the pieces in the skyline casing for a more exact 
top view.

All,
 
I have received an inquiry from a non-member who does not have internet 
access.  He is an N scale modeler and I am unable to answer his 
question.  I am hoping someone on this list can assist me.
 
Basically, he owns two Bachmann J locomotives; he wants to know if the 
J shell can be mounted on the Bachmann 4-8-2 chassis as a basis for a 
K2 conversion.
 
Any thoughs or suggestions?  Let me know and I will send him a reply.
