For all interested, I switched from HO to N a number of years ago. I have
decals mentioned in recent posting. So as to not tax my mind please give me
the Champs stock number or other company numbers for other manufacturers. I
can be reached off this site at jlisica55 at comcast.net I believe I can
accommodate a number of requests. I have done business with other members
in the past re other HO N&W items and I believe they were satisfied. Thank
you for your consideration.

Jim

I can tell you that I have already done the artwork correctly, it is done to
full size, so that stencils can be made on these and others. I've not had
anything to paint on this nature, but has been done. I've been working with
Richard Shell about these and some decal sets that are not on the market in
correct form and size.

And, by the way, the artwork on the MRS hopper car decals was not the best.
(Sorry, Tom; we were friends, but the artwork wasn't just right!) The old
Champs (now discontinued) did not get the height of the "N&W" right (it was
about halfway between 17" and 24"), but the shape and thickness of the
letters and the ampersand were pretty good. Now and then you can find
somebody offering the Champs on ebay, but you will never get to buy them
from Champ again. If we can't interest Shellscale in filling the void, maybe
the society could spring for a custom run from Rail Graphics or somebody who
does custom decals. But get the artwork right! That shouldn't be so hard to
do from photos with today's computer technology. And do both the 17" and the
24".

Lois,

IIRC, Model Railroad Services was a line of decals owned by the late Tom
English, who also owned Chesterfield Hobbies near Richmond, VA.

Perhaps this is a project for the N&WHS modeling committee to explore;
offering correct N&W decals would not only benefit our membership, but would
also draw non-N&W modelers to our website to purchase decals....and probably
books, etc.

The MRS decals were great, but are a result of technology and production
methods that are probably over 20 years old or older.

Friends:
At present the Model Railroad Services decals for N&W steam era freight cars
is still listed in the Commissary as "temporarily out of stock" though I
have heard that they will be discontinued. If so, I will be left without a
important source for detailing my freight car fleet, as I model the late
steam era (mid-1950's) on the N&W. I have had at present to suspend work on
two 55-ton hoppers (no end decals) and a H2a hopper (no decals at all). If
these decals are to be discontinued, do any of you know a source for finding
decals for N&W freight cars in this period? Any assistance would be much
appreciated.
