Joseph:

Without any experience in the matter, I speculate that very fine silk cloth might come closest in texture. My mother seems frequently to be able to find "pre-owned" silk scarves at near give-away prices at "turn-around" shops-- and I have seen examples of raw silk and silk dyed in colors that might reasonably represent sun-aged canvas.

I have never tried to bleach dyed silk, and don't know whether clorox or oxy-clean could eliminate dyes without attacking the silk itself. Immersing silk cloth in normal tap-water leaves "water marks" that might or might not look like inadvertent staining that cab curtains underwent in normal use.

If you can find a silk scarf and get the color you want (by whatever means), you will have enough material to do several dozens of O-scale model curtains. But I'm not sure how you would get the material to "drape" convincingly.

Thank you Ken,
I'm detailing an N&W J in O scale and was wondering what would be a good material for the cab curtains.

Very Respectfully,
