The amazing fact in all of this is that it was discussed with Steve and SMD that they would make the official announcement first prior to the society making an announcement regarding such. It is a proper method so as not to "steal the thunder" of Steve's and SMD's efforts.

That's amazing news! To think such a fact has been out there for a week or so with no prior word is really amazing.
I have a couple of the SMD B&O cabooses and can attest to the high quality of their products. The fidelity to detail including paint and lettering is something to marvel over. Their releases are far beyond any brass import I've seen or painted. I know they will do the same with the upcoming N&W cabs too.
Please remember that these two fellows insist of quality and are alone and not some large company so they take a VERY LONG TIME to get their products out there for sale. Their estimated delivery times often run way behind but if you want something to be proud of running you just have to wait. They are honorable guys and will eventually release them when they are ready. I have watched the very impatient B&O group members raising hell about the lateness of the individual cars and bad-mouth these guys. I would hope we can be more civilized and patient in our waiting. Please bear with them on this.
Many thanks to anyone who has contributed toward getting the cars produced as we are forever in appreciation of your work. Thank you, SMD!!!

Fred,
You and Steve are to be commended for your vision and energy in getting this project to this point. I know of not only the amount of time you both have put into the project, but the other resources you have invested as well. Bill and Ken, the owners of Spring Mills Depot, are interested in producing only accurate prototype models.  I recently purchased their B&O wagon top covered hopper and it is an exquisite model.
As to why nothing has been mentioned about this announcement on this list, especially since the announcement is now a week old, is unexplainable. As I have said before, it is one thing to be on a committee; it is entirely different to actually do work for the committee's goal.
Kudos and a big thank you to you and Steve.
Let me know if I can assist in any way.

Given the recent postings regarding the desire for caboose models I’m surprised someone has not mentioned the product announcement made at the convention. Spring Mills Depot (SMD) announced they are going to produce highly accurate HO models of the  CF, CG, CH, C2, C-10, C-10a, C-30, and C-30a with paint ranging from as-built to the last N&W block letter scheme. NWHS member Steve Smith and I have been working with this manufacturer for around two years to get to this point, and Steve started the announcement with a summary of the extensive effort that has gone into assembling accurate prototype information. The inspiration for the work came from the Bowers / Brewer caboose book, the rich set of available drawings in the archives, and a personal desire on our part to have models available. SMD plans on having the project details posted to their web site by the end of this month. There will be LOTS of specific models to choose from including most of the roads that obtained second hand N&W cabs. I’m not going to pre-empt the formal product launch on the web site by going into more details here so I encourage you to look for the product to go live on the web soon. While you wait, go check out their B&O cab models, they are stunning! Fred Boettner
