The absolute details of the paint schemes are virtually unavailable records. Jim Brewer did a detailed analysis of depot paint schemes with available documentation in the Arrow, Volume 14, No. 6, November-December 1998, the documentation begins for that material in 1947.

Tim Hensley researched depot paint a number of years back, which lead to the painting of the replica Matewan, WV depot. He took color samples off the still existing depot on the former 12-Pole line at Dingess. Those samples were a dark red-brown trim, cream or pale yellow body and the same dark red-brown roof. No company documentation has surfaced, so far, to give us details of exact color.

The roofs were always painted, they would rust if not.
