Hi Mike;

The gorilla in the economic analysis are (1) design time and (2) machine
time.  The resin cost is barely in the equation.  Design time includes the
person's time and the cost of the CAD system and computer hardware.
Machine time is machine cost, power, maintenance, set up, etc.  Shapeways
is an option once the design is done.  Shapeways provides a realistic
method to estimate the actual cost.  They are not out of line for the
service they provide.  There MANY other 3D printing shops, almost all
geared to industrial customers, and their pricing is similar.
