Replacement gear for BLI J

If you can put the split gear back together, it can likely be used as a mold master to cast a durable urethane part, including adding glass fiber for more strength. The glass is like dust and will not wear mating gears/worms but does add a little more strength. Considering that BLI and NWSL are a no-go, I am willing to help if needed. Parts will have no shrinkage compared to the master and can be cast in black. Urethane is NOT as strong as Nylon but also not as susceptible to splitting. You might chip a tooth but that’s easily repaired with CA. Contact me off-list to discuss further.

That is the second option, find an adhesive specifically for nylon follow the direction, clamp the gear together, and smooth surface and clean out any in the between the teeth.

Dutch,

My guess is that you might be facing the same dilemma as I was in finding a replacement gear for my Paragon 1 Class A. BLI advised me that the drivetrain for the Class A beginning with Paragon 2 engines had been redesigned and they did not have any internal drive parts for Paragon 1 Class A’s.

As a result, my least favorite option became my only option of repairing the gear with JB Weld. I hope you can find a gear, but if you can’t I would be glad to share more detail with you on how I repaired my Class A if it would help.

Cheers,

Try NWSL, you will need to know the number of teeth, diameter, and the bore of the gear or the axle diameter in mm.
I have been doing this for my old brass locomotives for years.

I have not one, but two Broadway Limited Paragon ”1” J’s that now have broken gears. BLI’s website states that they no longer service or support these older (2001~2007) locos and NWSL has informed me they have not made replacements gears for these either.

Does anyone know if replacement gears for these are available from someone else?
