Prices are out of most of our reach too especially the DP models. The DP models are a disgrace, to me, with their paint inaccuracies. a backstory on the original MTH cars and dies. The late Charlie Schlotthober recounted how the original owner of the company had wanted his set of the brass N&W Overland Models cars, which Sam Putney had worked with years before (I might have provided some information on those as well), which were truly excellent. Charlie said he?d be glad to lend them his set to take measurements, but he wanted it back after they were done. They said, No, you do not understand. We are going to tear them apart to copy them exactly. So he ended up selling his set (for a decent amount of money), as I think he likely had another set already. <br></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Years ago, when I was shopping for a large flatbed printer for my former job, we visited several print shows to examine the various printers available. Now, these are printers that cost between $30,000 and $500,000, but there is a variety of slightly off-brand printers that fall within the lower end of the scale, yet resemble the higher-dollar name-brand machines remarkably. I asked how this was, as the design material was copyrighted. The people representing the Far East manufacturers said something on the nature of ?Ah, copy, right?? I worked with our printer for almost eight years. The manuals were truly horrible; poor translations to almost pidgeon English made it nearly amusing, but not.<br></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">So, the same story applied to the MTH cars. dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">The ScaleTrains/FoxValley/MTH streamlined cars are accurate for the<br></div><div dir="ltr">Arrow.<br></div><div dir="ltr">There have been a few Walthers cars, mainly Pennsylvania, that are<br></div><div dir="ltr">correct for N&W, like the P-S 10-6 sleeper and B60b/BEk baggage cars.<br></div><div dir="ltr">Con-Cor also did a series of short PRR cars that are correct, or at<br></div><div dir="ltr">least close enough, to ex-PRR cars N&W bought in the 30s.<br></div><div dir="ltr">Not unlike cabooses, given the unique nature of most railroads'<br></div><div dir="ltr">passenger cars, modelers of most railroads have to make do with<br></div><div dir="ltr">stand-ins. Having the Arrow cars and a few ex-PRR cars is actually a<br></div><div dir="ltr">blessing for N&W modelers. I have not seen<br></div><div dir="ltr">them by either company so I can't say much but they look pretty good<br></div><div dir="ltr">to me. I won't get in to colors as that's a losing battle for<br></div><div dir="ltr">discussion. <br></div><div dir="ltr"> Division Point, Roanoke Rails and Railworks have produced accurate<br></div><div dir="ltr">N&W cars in brass but the RR ones are very hard to find as well as the<br></div><div dir="ltr">RW cars. Prices are out of most of our reach too especially the DP<br></div><div dir="ltr">models. The DP models are a disgrace, to me, with their paint<br></div><div dir="ltr">inaccuracies.
