[Slowhand] Clapton smokes the bowl

Apparently the Hollywood bowl and surrounding hills have a skunk
infestation,
cause there was some mean smelling stuff at the bowl last Mon. evening :)
I've enjoyed reading all the reviews, hearing from
fellow slowhander's i've had the pleasure of meeting, and great to read
about Mark Devault's(luckiest dude around besides Doyle Brahmall II) usual
tour hi-jynx.
I realize there's no such thing as a bad clapton show. Varied level of
performances- yes.
I thought Robert Randolph's too short opener was as good as it could get.
He really did a fine job. I couldn't imagine having to open for someone like
EC.
It's tough to be an opening band for anyone since they don't have time to
warm up and
get into a groove. That dude come right out of the gates swinging.
It was a shame because most of the crowd was still pouring in,
oblivious to this guy playing his a@@ off, strolling to their seats,
like the concert didn't start yet... hello, i paid big bucks and i want
to see the ENTIRE concert, not a herd of cattle moseying to their seats
that probably weren't aware there was an opening band at all!
Some ol hippie decided Voodoo Child was his queue and walked right
up on stage to join the Randolph family and was quickly escorted away...:)
The sound Mon. evening was ok but could have been better.
It seemed like EC lost mike during Let it Rain and the vocals
during the rockier numbers were a bit muddy as Art Arias mentioned.
EC didn't dump WT as i requested:(. It was ok though. I really enjoyed
GTGBLW. i wish he would have implemented the wah-wah more.
I dragged the whole tribe with for this show. i was worried that
my youngest-13 was too young but that ended when i saw lots
of younger kids in addition to a baby.
My better 1/2 commented that Eric played like a demon the whole concert
and he had much more energy than the Reptile show 3 yrs earlier.
I was 17 when i first saw Eric(my first concert) and my oldest son is
seventeen
and this was his first concert. He likes hip-hop, rap, etc. His comments
after:
"Eric Clapton is tight", that was awesome... my youngest said his neck was
sore
the next day from rocking his head back and forth.
i guess i enjoyed the show. i'm told i appeared to be in a trance :)
A good time was had by all.
They did a real nice job on the tour programme this time out.
i was wondering if this was Clapton's first time at the bowl?
Someone mentioned the music played on the pa before the show
during one of the previous tour stops. The music Monday night wasn't loud
enough to hear clearly but some of it did sound like it could be new EC and
it sounded great.

Thanks Eric for another wonderful evening!

peace,
ken m
