St. Charles Catholic to open satellite high school Sept. 26

LaPlace, La. - The Archdiocese of New Orleans has established a
satellite school as an extension of St. Charles Catholic High School in
LaPlace. Mr. Vincent Scozzari will serve as the administrator.

Since Hurricane Katrina, St. Charles Catholic has received over 700
applications for admission, but due to the size of the school, it has
been able to accommodate only 178 new students. SCC’s normal enrollment
of 410 students has swelled to over 580. Students returned to classes on
Sept. 12 and welcomed new students on Sept. 16.

SCC principal Andrew Cupit is thrilled that many more students will have
a school to attend. “This whole situation has been tough on everyone.
Hopefully, the establishment of the satellite school will help people to
rest easy knowing that they will have a place to continue their
education. SCC is committed to doing whatever is necessary to make this
work for everyone. We will adjust our schedule by either starting a
little earlier or releasing earlier in order to assist with the evening
shift.”

Mr. Scozzari is assessing the needs of the satellite school and
assembling a teaching staff. “The satellite school is open to students
in eighth through 12th grades who have not yet been placed in a Catholic
high school. We will offer only the core curriculum subjects. Students
will attend classes from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.”

An orientation and scheduling session will be held on Wednesday, Sept.
21, 2005, from 3 to 7 p.m. in SCC’s library. The starting date for
classes has been set for Monday, Sept. 26, 2005. Students who have
already sent their information to SCC need to contact the school office
at (985) 652-3809 to indicate if they are still interested in attending
the satellite school. For any student who has not sent information to
SCC, an information form can be downloaded from the school’s website
(www.scc-comets.com) and faxed to the school (985) 652-2609.

There are no fees due at the time of registration. More information
about tuition and other school issues will be covered during the
registration process.
