Commissioner of Administration Announces Discretionary Reopening of State
Offices

Commissioner of Administration Jerry Luke LeBlanc, reacting to the passage
of Hurricane Rita, today issued a statement which allows state agency heads
to exercise their discretion in reopening state offices which had been
closed before the storm made landfall.

According to LeBlanc, "state agency heads in all parishes may reopen state
offices as circumstances allow and call employees in those areas back to
work in accordance with Civil Service rules." The Commissioner says the
offices may be reopened as of Wednesday, September 28, 2005.

The Commissioner called for supervisors of state workers to be sensitive to
the needs of their employees in view of difficulties some may face in
returning to work in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita.
