Disaster Relief Update From State Senator Walter Boasso

The following info will be of use to our many businesses aiming to return to
our area and to obtain disaster contract work:

U.S. Department of Commerce has created a Hurricane Information Center with
the website http://www.RebuildingtheGulfCoast.gov and toll-free phone number
1-888-487-2362 to help register businesses for contracting opportunities and
to answer questions regarding federal contract work.

Louisiana Department of Economic Development has a website
http://www.accesslouisiana.com to allow businesses to register for
sub-contracting capabilities and to either obtain or to post commercial
property opportunities.

The following info is for our area's residents seeking employment:

Louisiana Department of Labor is holding a Job Fair on November 1, 2005 at
the Slidell Municipal Auditorium from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. to serve the
communities of St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Orleans and Plaquemines. The
auditorium is at 2056 Second Street near the corner of Fremaux Avenue and
Front Street. Interested businesses seeking to participate should e-mail
Shane Boucher at sboucher at ldol.state.la.us.

Our state's military veterans seeking employment will have a special
Veterans Job Fair, also sponsored by the La. Department of Labor, on
Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the American Legion Nicholson Post at 151 S.
Woodale Blvd in Baton Rouge from 8:30 am to Noon. Veterans should bring
their military i.d. or their discharge papers for admittance into the fair.

St. Bernard Parish School system educators, retirees and staff can monitor

There's eligibility requirements for patients at this site, but it is worth
checking out if you have a single household income of $19,000 or less OR a
married household income of $31,000 or less.

US Environmental Protection Agency and Louisiana Department of Environmental
Quality have made available the results of sampled & monitored data on
floodwater, sediment and air quality at http://www.epa.gov/enviro/katrina/
and has a search box by area at http://www.epa.gov/enviro/emkatrina.html

Finally, for those U.S. mail customers who have not forwarded their mail,
regular mail to the 70032, 70043, 70075, 70092 and 70085 zip codes can be
picked up at the temporary post office annex by the Covington Post Office at
1775 N. Columbia Street, from 10am - 2pm Mondays thru Saturdays.
