Disaster Relief Update From State Senator Walter Boasso

October 15, 2005

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

* * * Louisiana's Department of Economic Development has a wide array of
resources for assisting our stricken businesses in Plaquemines, St. Bernard
and eastern St. Tammany Parishes. The subjects cover FEMA trailers available
for businesses, financing your business recovery and obtaining contractor
work, etc. If you have computer access, click on
http://www.ledforward.louisiana.gov/faqs.html for a summary of available
assistance and programs. If you don't have computer access, you may call
toll-free 1-866-301-7617 and press "1" for business support, and LED can fax
the information to you. This vital Louisiana department is certainly trying
to get our businesses back on their feet - don't hesitate to visit that
website or to call the toll-free number !

* * * Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Robert Wooley wants homeowners to
contact his office with insurance settlement problems! Yep, you heard right,
and we called the insurance department to verify this exact information. "If
your adjustor is telling you something that you don't agree with, or that
you don't think sounds right based on your knowledge of your policy, then
you need to contact our office," Commissioner Wooley said to WWL. Here's
what you do if you think you're being treated unfairly: Call the Insurance
Department with your complaint, toll-free at 1-800-259-5300 OR file your
complaint at http://www.ldi.state.la.us An employee of the Consumer Division
of the Department of Insurance will process the legitimacy of your complaint
and bring it to the attention of senior claims specialists from the various
insurance companies holding our policies. According to Commissioner Wooley,
senior claims specialists have the ability to override adjustor decisions,
and by taking our complaints to this next step, it certainly can't hurt our
chances for a positive outcome. We just need to be patient once we register
our complaints, as it may take several weeks to investigate them, Wooley
cautions.

Sincerely,

Senator Walter J. Boasso
