Debbie,

Could you please provide me with the names and phone numbers of the people
who refused to help because you are in St. Bernard. I would really like to
speak with these people.

Thank You,
Craig Taffaro

Lisa,
I live in Slidell and went in to Grace Fellowship church to get help
cleaning out my parents' home. (They are elderly and cannot do it and I
am a working mom.)
They were very sympathetic but would not send anyone to help me in
Chalmette because they know only St. Bernard residents are allowed into
the area. I explained that I have the required authorization to get into
the parish and they did not want to send anyone because they feel it
would be a waste of time traveling to St. Bernard and then not being
allowed in to help. Catholic Charities who is stationed at St. Luke's
church in Slidell and Operation Helping Hands(new project from the
Archbishop) also told me they are not sending help to St. Bernard
because of the "residents only" issue.

I was able to find a group of St. Bernard residents, who had a landscape
business prior to Katrina, to come clean the house out. They are
charging me $3,000 to remove the furniture and gut the house. It sounds
like a lot of money but what else can I do - I just don't have the
muscles or time and I can't let the house sit there full of growing
mold.

Good luck in finding free help. If anyone would like phone number of the
this crew
I will provide it.

Debbie
