Marvin,

Great Ideas!

A couple of other ideas........

1. There needs to be a much cleaner government all around. It starts at
the leadership level---what's on top trickles down. There needs to be
fairness, honesty, and accountability in all levels of leadership----Parish
government, the Water Board, Lake Borgne Levee District, (and yes!!) The
Sheriffs Department, etc. I think many in St. Bernard became used to the
"who you know" way of doing things. Many gained leadership positions
because of this philosophy instead of the way they were supposed to---by
WHAT they knew. Everyone, especially those who benefitted from the "who you
know" way of life, needs to change this. Our whole system of government in
this nation was set up so as to be ruled by the governed through elections.
Of course, it will be the people who ultimate ly decide what they will
tolerate in their government. And I would like to stress, EVERYONE
benefits from a clean, fair government.

2. I moved to Wisconsin about 3 1/2 years ago and I am so impressed by the
system of bike trails everywhere (lots of these double as snowmobile trails
in the winter). You can hop on one of the trails with your family and ride
as far as you can possibly handle--even 50 miles or more. The city of
Minneapolis has a system of bike trails that go completely around the city
and link all the green spaces and parks. It is really enjoyable and I think
it would be great to have green spaces that could be enjoyed like this. St.
Bernard was always a safe place to live and why not take advantage of it in
this way?
