Bob,

You are absolutely correct about using caution with modular homes. However,
as I stated in my previous comments, the type of modular home you are
speaking of sounds like the type I raised concerns about - ones that look
like to oversized trailers with an open side, then connected at the site.
They are always raised, typically like a mobile home.

However, the type of modular home mentioned by Wendy and the other reader is
the real deal. They are often built onto a concrete slab and each section
of the structure arrives at the site to be lowered into place, often having
two stories. These are the real "modular" homes. The other type you are
likely referring to are the ones that were once called "mobile" homes but
manufacturers in that industried lobbied to get the terminology changed to
"modular pre-fab".
