[StBernard] Murphy Oil - Why should I be out of pocket $14,300?

Amanda,

This argument has been presented in numerous discussions but so far to no
avail. I strongly believe that it makes no sense that the oil impacted
homes must clean out first to get the rest of any oil sediment that is left.
I say keep fighting for this because I am doing the same.

Good Luck and God Bless,
Craig

I shake my head... We tried during our meeting to ask them to simply pay
the bill for a crew to enter our home with the proper credentials and
insurance to clean out our home to the studs which is what Murphy is making
us responsible after we sign for the offer. They expect us to find someone
to clean out our homes to the studs.
Right now with the amount they are paying we will still be out of pocket
to the environmental cleanup company $14,300. As we are not going in our
home and cleaning out our furniture and ripping up carpet and tossing sheet
rock and insulation which is contaminated with crude oil.
First, we are not trained in hazardous materials so we are unaware of
the dangers but we are smart enough to notice and see people in
environmental suits from Murphy. Second, how can we be expected to clean
out our home without using an environmental cleanup or hazardous materials
cleanup crew.
Our whole point to them was to simply do what is right. I do not
believe they are educating owners of the contaminated houses about the
hazards. Nor are they offering an option of a crew to clean out our home to
the studs. After all their employees are all pictured in full on gear
cleaning up around the canal near my house.
We did price out the cleaning out of our home to the studs with an
environmental group with the proper credentials for hazardous materials and
we would be after the Murphy payment $14,300 in the whole.
Do they really expect us to take on the liability nor the possibility of
getting sued by the people we hire to clean out our home should they get ill
in the future? The liability is too great to take this chance. So we are
again in this all to familiar holding pattern.
We are not signing up for the class action but alas we are in holding
pattern waiting to see if Murphy will realize that if the inside of the
house is contaminated.

Why should Murphy expect us to do nothing less than they themselves would
do?

Amanda
