I know that there are a number of people who, like me, were affected by
Murphy and we each have to do what we believe to be correct. There is no
right or wrong, as far as what actions each of us individually decide to
take. I have had friends from the parish tell me that I am nuts to return,
that it will be a hell-hole for the next three years, I will get cancer,
etc. This certainly doesn't make it any easier to return, however, that is
the choice I made after considering the potential loss in selling my home,
the "premium" I would pay to move to the Northshore, and the fact that I had
great neighbors whom I hope return to Corinne Estates.

That said, I know that there are some folks who want Murphy to clean the
inside as well as the outside of their home. I hope that happens, but I
could not see waiting and having the "muck" sitting in my house doing
further damage. As I recently had surgery on my arm, I was unable to lift
heavy objects so I did what I could. There are a number of "companies" that
are cleaning and gutting houses, and I went with Bill Gettys as I knew him
and the quality of the work that he does. Others were cheaper, but I knew
that Bill and his group would do the job right. They gutted the entire
downstairs and my garage, removed every nail, and bleached the downstairs
area several times, for less than $10,000. I value money as much as the
next guy, but it is a great feeling afterwards to see all the muck and
destroyed furniture out of your home. Naturally, I am still waiting for
Murphy to pick up the remaining debris, and have forwarded email letters to
Murphy's President, but at least I know that my house has dried out and I
can begin the rebuilding process.

I hope that I am making the right decisions, but if not, I am out $10,000.
If I would have continued to wait, the additional damage as the mold spread
upstairs would probably add another $10,000 to the repair costs. At least
this way I prevented the mold and mildew from spreading, and can walk around
my house without hip boots, and the problem I was having with snakes in the
house is now eliminated.

Again, I am not judging anyone anymore than I want to be judged: I am
simply expressing some thoughts that I hope will be of benefit to others.

John Richardson
