That was about the only line that I cringed over, as I as a nurse in long
term care worked with disabled for many years and even evacuated 36 of them
for Katrina, now placed in alternate facilities until group homes can be
rebuilt (possibly outside flood area as they dont tolerate repeated
evacuation and change in routines very well).

But the line is true nevertheless. I find myself constantly reminding teens
that 'retarded' is NOT a term to be used to call each other names. My own
daughter accompanied me often at work and also helped with the evacuation
taking care of them and developed relationships, and corrects her friends
when using the term inappropriately. (It is, in fact, a proper term for the
condition, used in the state and federal regulations).



Last I saw, the float made it through the storm and is still sitting
over by
Jimmy's house.
