There was a 2nd oil spill that has gone almost un-noticed since in involved
only a small area. The length of Ohio St. from Jacob Drive West. The
majority of this neighborhood saw the oil present but just assumed it was
from the original tank farm spill on the lake side of Judge Perez by Collins
canal.

This appeared on the St. Bernard Parish Government web page in September :

"There was another report of oil on Ohio Street, an area where the flood
water has receded and had previously been noted to be clear of the spill.
In reponse to the report, Murphy officials inspected the entrie length of
Ohio Street. They report that the oil observed on Ohio was an isolated
patch of mud and oil not related to the spill, probably caused by the
flooding of the containment dykes at the refinery. They will clean the
area.

Murphy is wo rking with the EPA and the Coast Guard to determine exactly how
much crude was spilled. The containment dyke is still flooded so they are
having trouble entering the area. The plan is to vacuum up as much of the
crude as possible and drain the dyke to prevent any further spillage due to
rain. "
