Westely,

the white house is fairly supportinve of the plan and my sources say that
the president believes the plan can work. There are negotiations going on
and we will be calling for community based support soon.

Although Congress is in recess, there is still action that needs to be taken
to ensure the passage of The Baker Plan as quickly as possible, once
Congress does reconvene.

According to news reports I read following the close of the session, it
seems one thing that was lacking was strong support from President Bush.
Let's put his feet to the fire.

Send him and Vice-President Cheney letters and emails urging their support.
Even more important, urge Mr. Bush to announce his support for the bill in
his State of the Union address at the end of the month.

Contact information for Mr. Bush is:
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Phone: 202-456-1111

Email: comments at whitehouse.gov <mailto:comments%40whitehouse.gov>

Vice-President Cheney's email is: vice_president at whitehouse.gov
<mailto:vice_president%40whitehouse.gov>

I'm going to put more information on my web site, hopefully by the weekend,
so that we may also have an online petition to sign.

Below is the text of emails I sent to Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney.

Thanks,
Westley

Dear Mr. President,

In the days following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, you stood in
Jackson Square and addressed the nation, promising to help rebuild New
Orleans and surrounding communities.

I, and others like me, have taken you on your word.

One way you can continue to show your support for the Louisiana Gulf Coast
is to strongly endorse H.R. 4100, introduced by Rep. Richard Baker, a fellow
Republican, in your State of the Union address at the end of this month.

This bill, which will not cost the taxpayers any money, will allow those who
have been devastated by the storms the opportunity to buy the most precious
commodity, time. They will be able to take the time to make a decision that
is right for their family. In addition, it may also help save millions of
dollars in loses in federally underwritten home mortgage insurance, whether
it is Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or the VA.

Thank you for your time,

Dear Mr. Cheney,

I am writing to ask your support in favor of H.R. 4100, the Baker Plan.

This bill, introduced by Richard Baker of Louisiana is designed to give
victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita the opportunity to buy time before
making a hasty decision about the future of their families lives.

This bill, which will not cost the taxpayers any money and it may also help
save millions of dollars in loses in federally underwritten home mortgage
insurance, whether it is Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or the VA.

I strongly ask that you encourage President Bush to also support this bill.

Thank you for your time,
Westley Annis
