[StBernard] Post Office

Terry,

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

I have shipped items around the world using USPS, UPS, FedEX, DHL, you name
it. Each of them has screwed up at some point, but on the whole they each
do an outstanding job, especially the USPS (except when I'm waiting on a
piece of mail and the carrier comes at 4:00 instead of his usual 2:00, but
that's another story).

The amount of mail that gets moved on a daily basis is truly unbelievable
and to expect it to be 100% is dreaming a little. It's hard when the screw
up happens to your mail (just last month it took two weeks to get a Priority
Mail envelope delivered when the promise was four days), but you have to
look past it.

Then again, no where else in the world can you mail a letter 6000+ miles for
under fifty cents.

To All Who Complain About the Post Office:

Please understand the tremendous amount of work that the U.S. Post Office is
doing to get your mail to you. The magnitude of the mail situation is
beyond what the average postal "customer" can imagine.

My family has several members working for the U.S. Post Office in various
capacities and you would not believe what they are going through to get the
mail to you. Many were back to work within a week of the hurricane - not
necessarily in N.O. or in St. Bernard, but in other areas of the state
trying to retrieve the mail from all over the United States which was
destined for St. Bernard and N.O.

The buildings which were our local Post Offices, were damaged by Hurricanes
Katrina and Rita just as our homes were.

Give these guys a break. You just don't know what is going on behind the
scenes. Postal employees are scattered all over the state and commuting to
various locations working in tents and trailers to find your mail and get it
as close to you as possible.

With all that we have had to put up with: FEMA, SBA, Insurance Companies,
politicians, the PRESIDENT...please give the Post Office a break. They are
"on it" and working around the clock to get your mail to you.

I am afraid that many are using the Post Office as a "whipping post" to vent
their pent-up frustrations about our overall situation.

The Post Office employees are also "customers" and they are not getting
their mail any faster than anyone else.

Please have patience. Things are getting better every day.

Sincerely,

Terry Vinson Battaglia
