"The racism against the Black community portrayed in the movie was
upsetting, and it wasn't too long ago that racism was that "thick". Maybe it
will just take a little more time and a little more forgiving.

My mother is a full-blooded Mohawk from Kahnawake, Quebec, just across the
river from Montreal. Visiting the reservation on the average of once every
10 years, many there didn't recognize me as a Mohawk. I was on the
recieving end of the bitterness held toward the white man---r acism is not
kind in any respects. After having to experience this, I feel for those
Blacks that had to deal with it every day of their lives. It hurts to have
a whole community saying, "You are not worth as much as we are." As I said,
maybe a little more time and a little more forgiving."

**I also saw the movie, and Gawd, (no blasphemy intended, but dialect), was
it ever geared towards "making whitey guilty" in nature.

Sure, racism exists (existed), but, other cultures existed parallel to the
black race. All my life as a Sicilian (Dago), I had to fight my way out of
ridicule and exclusion around other cultures (yes, I was raised in
predominately black neighborhoods where "whitey" was different in New
Orleans 7th ward.

The movie depicted all southerners as negatively as can
be--tobaccie-chawing, good old boy, etc. as if there were no intelligent
beings in Texas, except for the team whites. Had I known this agenda would
be pushed by the liberal film-makers (would are the Hollywood crowd, I would
have kept my son out of the movie as an extra. This film only tends to
solidify what the nation thinks about St. Bernard and the south. I wonder
how the blacks think when a new Step-'n-Fetchit appears in a movie with Aunt
Jamima playing in a new drama movie and whites are belitting the race at the
expense of some racist fool wanting to help promote the Klan? Movies which
open new wounds only foster/certify a condition to the north that it is
evident Southerners kill the ebony race for fun and profit, so as to
manifest hatred and worsens relations among the races.

Hollywood, as its golden rule--promotes and breeds its self-righteous image
by using its media to sensationalize whatever social agenda it feels it
needs for the moment. Next year, we might see movies about "Euthanasia" in
its efforts to influence America into passing its law to "mercifully kill"
our old, feeble and sickened. (if we take this first step in a majority, at
some point in the future, "over 30 year olds" will be (as Twilight Zone
might have it) "obsolete" and in sight for destruction.

So, let us worry about peaceful co-existence without being racists or
communist, socialist or Utopians. People were not intended to have so much
freedom as to have everything in life. No perfect people beyond Adam and
Eve's fall from grace.
