another thing to try is borax. its an old detergent, but i washed some
clothes that were in rubbermaid containers in the attic 3 times and the
smell is gone. now these clothes didn't have the muddy/sewerage stuff on
them just wet/molded smell. i soaked them first, and washed them 3 times.
i found it at winn dixie. worth a try!!!!! good luck,

nancy

Cindy, after trying all the soaking methods suggested, put the items out to
dry in the fresh air and let the sun dry it. In my case, many smelly
mattresses from toddlers' urine has been saved this way. I also did this
with one of my daughter's favorite sweaters that got wet from the flood in
my mother's attic. The sweater wasn't too bad to begin with---towards the
top of the box where the water wicked up through all the clothes, but it was
smell free after letting it dry in the sun. Good Luck!
