Just some tips on insurance that I learned from a well informed source.

The top three insurance companies in the state of Louisiana
1) State Farm 35%
2) AllState 2x%
3) LA FAIR Plan 18%

There is no longer a LA Citizens Plan or LA Coastal Plan, they have both
been wrapped into the LA FAIR Plan.

AllState has started writing new policies in Louisiana. However, they are
excluding wind storms. This means they will not cover tropical storms,
hurricanes, or tornadoes.

Because of Katrina and Rita and the assessment they will need to pay into
the LA FAIR Plan, State Farm will be assessing their policy holders 8% or
17% depending upon where they live.

If you are looking to buy a house and cannot get any coverage other than the
LA Fair Plan, you will have up to a 15 day waiting period before you will
receive coverage. For most private insurance, the agent can write a binding
policy, but for the LA FAIR Plan, everything must go through the main office
and there is no way to speed up the process.
