>From March 5 - 30, 2006, 1,000 to 1,500 volunteers will be on the ground to

clean out debris from flooded homes in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. As a
result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita over 26,000 homes were flooded in this
parish. The volunteers expect to clean out 100 homes a day.

The St. Bernard Parish Debris Removal Volunteer Program is a pilot project
which was established by St. Bernard Parish and FEMA on January 12, 2006.
Volunteers are using the FEMA run St. Bernard Parish base camp and are
receiving free room and board plus transportation to and from the job sites.
Organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, AmeriCorps, Samaritans Purse,
National Relief Network, Hill Top Rescue & Relief and others are all
involved.

To volunteer your organization or for more information please contact David
Dysart, Director of Recovery (816-896-8161) or his assistant, Nan Touchard
(504-874-0596).
