LRA, FEMA to Launch New Web-Based Planning Tool


BATON ROUGE, LA--The Louisiana Recovery Authority and FEMA's Long Term
Community Recovery Team will unveil an interactive new web-based planning
tool at a press event on Monday, March 20, 2006.

Created by the Louisiana Long Term Community Recovery (LTCR) team, the
web-based planning tool will support planning efforts by making parish
recovery plans available to planners, community members, stakeholders and
the public through the internet.

The LTCR effort is a locally-driven, parish-level planning process that has
been coordinated through a partnership of the LRA and FEMA as a part of
Louisiana Speaks.

Louisiana Family Recovery Corps to Host Job Training Program Displaced
Residents Encouraged to Attend

BATON ROUGE, LA-The Louisiana Family Recovery Corps (LFRC) is co-sponsoring
a free job training and placement program for displaced residents of South
Louisiana on Wednesday, March 22, 2006.


"This event provides a great opportunity for a person to see a meaningful
job and immediately begin to gain the necessary training to get that job,"
said Kim Landry of the LFRC.

"Learn-to-Earn," a short course designed to enhance skills for people in the
workplace, will be offered to displaced residents at Renaissance Village
from 2:00- 3:30 pm. Participants will also have the opportunity to sign up
for extended three week courses in various fields including: carpentry,
electrical, plumbing, nursing, and restaurant service. A computer-based
skills assessment program will also be available through the Baton Rouge
Community College mobile unit. Participants completing coursework will
receive work related safety items, such as safety glasses, work gloves,
boots, etc.

After completing the "Learn-to-Earn" coursework, participants will also have
the opportunity to meet with prospective employers through a job fair
sponsored by Fox 44 television.

Event sponsors include LFRC, Fox 44, Louisiana Community and Technical
College System, the Baton Rouge Campus of Louisiana Technical College, Baton
Rouge Community College, and the Louisiana Department of Labor.
