Extreme Makover in St. Bernard to Air Thursday

Extreme Makeover TV show about St. Bernard Parish to air 7 p.m. Thursday on
ABC network; 8,000 kitchenware sets to be donated to St. Bernard residents
with proper I.D. on Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at 315 E. Judge Perez
Drive; Job Fair to be held Thursday, April 20 at Nunez Community College 
 
 
The ABC television network's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will air its
special on St. Bernard Parish at 7 p.m. on .Thursday, April 6, featuring a
photo restoration project for St. Bernard residents and the building of a
playground for children at Vista Park in Chalmette. 
 
More than 50 St. Bernard Parish residents jumped at the chance to have
storm-damaged photos restored in a special project sponsored by "Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition" and the Hewlett-Packard company. Also, an expensive
project was carried out to convert a baseball field at Vista into a
playground for children, using numerous community volunteers. 
 
Millions of viewers see the show each week and the St. Bernard Parish
special should be an excellent opportunity for the nation to see more about
the parish's situation, Parish President Henry "Junior'' Rodriguez said.

Some 8,000 kitchenware sets will be distributed free to St. Bernard Parish
residents with valid identification on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 6
p.m., at the old Jubilee supermarket site, 315 East Judge Perez Drive in
Chalmette. 
Only one set per St. Bernard Parish address will be given away. 
The government of Saudi Arabia, through the Houston-based oil company
ARAMCO, donated the sets, which include cookware, flatware, dinnerware,
kitchen towels and other items.  

The National Relief Network, which operates disaster relief programs for
student groups, will be distributing the sets. St. Bernard Parish's
Department of Recovery is also involved.

Nunez Community College, 3710 Paris Road, is holding a Job Fair in its Arts
and Sciences Building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.
