Westley...
I have recently learned that FEMA will NOT pay for debris clean-up at
commercial establishments. One would think that cleaning-up after a storm
would be just that, a clean-up. However, it appears that FEMA has decided
to neglect the business community. As you are aware, most businesses in St.
Bernard were small businesses and they cannot afford the expense of this
massive job. Also, the parish looks a mess especially along the main roads
where businesses are located. This is not a local problem, the same is
happening in New Orleans.
Unless FEMA changes its position, there is every reason to believe that
many businesses will not return which impacts jobs, taxes, etc. Is this
under re-consideration? IS the Parish fighting to change this ruling? If
not, what are businesses to do? Ron Chapman
