Plus, are the metal steps probably more slippery when it has rained or
raining?

I would say that kind of "logic" should be reported to the DHS I.G., but I
somehow don't believe it would do any good.

-----------------------------------------------------

Here's one for those keeping notes on the FEMA trailer fiasco and
waste of
money. While many are waiting for their first trailer, a friend
relates this
story from Slidell. They have had their trailer since November and
it has
wooden steps. Last week a FEMA contractor came and removed the wood
steps.
He said that it was out of code because the handrail should be 36
inches
above the step and it was 34 inches. He replaced it with a metal
staircase.
He was asked why they couldn't just nail a piece of wood on top the
rail to
make it higher and he said that he didn't know. He was asked how
much this
metal stair costs and he said about $2,700. So, FEMA paid a small
fortune to
begin with for custom made wooden steps at each trailer and if they
were
built wrong, the contractor gets to install a metal stair costing
FEMA
$2,700. You know the actual cost of the stairs is just a fraction of
that by
the time the prime contractor and all the subs in-between take their
profit.

Worst part is, the person says the metal steps are steeper and
easier to
trip on! Guess FEMA will come back in six months and replace with a
$5,000
concrete staircase.

Can anyone stop the insanity!
