Wendy,

Thanks for the information. The council can certainly request the extension
on behalf of the parish. We will do it in a June meeting.

Thanks for the heads up and input.

Good luck and God Bless,
Craig

Craig,

Spoke with the insurance commissioner's office- Clarissa Preston
225-219-4485. The current directive, directive 195 (located on their
website), is what gives homeowner's the 365 day extension over 180 days to
recover depreciation and replacement costs. The Commissioner is aware that
this directive may need to be extended and as the August deadline approaches
they will access the matter. HOWEVER, if St. Bernard Parish feels that it
has not made the same headway in recovery as other parishes, the parish can
make the argument to the commission to extend this directive in our area
only upon request from the parish. As a bare minimum, the fact that we had
Katrina, the oil spill, and then Rita, the parish could make the argument
that the parish should be granted a minimum extension of 60-90 days because
of the unprecedented challenges faced by this parish alone. AND, that
recovery couldn't begin to be assessed, let alone started, for 6-8 weeks
because of these three issues. Now, I am not sure if this is something that
Junior has to request or something the council has to vote on and put forth
to the state. Unfortunately, these are the gray matters to my limited
knowledge. But, I think that whatever needs to be put into motion to start
this directive extension process, it should be started immediately to insure
that St. Bernard residents don't lose this opportunity because some piece of
paper wasn't filed on time or because the parish wasn't sure how to and ran
out of time. ALSO, this could be very important in helping businesses
consider returning to the area because it would allow them the time they
need in order to recover more of their losses than if not.
Hope this helps and we can get this started.

Wendy Hall
