JFR,
I really don't like to question anyone's reason for returning to the parish,
but your statement that you spent $100,000 to repair your home "based on the
assumption" that others would do the same is just ridiculous. After such a
devastating event which touched all of us it is just silly to assume because
you have the means to spend that kind of money,or choose to spend it, that
other people will make the same decision. I know many people who are not
returning because they cannot afford to repair or rebuild. Also, many are
not returning because of the fear of having it happen again. Most people in
the parish were of average to below average means and are still suffering
financially and emotionally due to this disaster. Having to spend even a
small amount to repair windows, doors and have the weeds controlled is
simply impossible for some. Some are waiting to see if the LRA will help
them in some way. Maybe more will return if that plan works out.
As far as the parish and their deadlines, why haven't they picked up the
shrimp boat at the end of Mumphrey. Isn't that a nuisance and an eyesore
for those who lived in that area? What are the deadlines for the parish to
"clean up"?
It is these kinds of comments and also the actions of the parish officials
(or lack of action) that is making up the minds of many who have been
undecided for all of this time.
I wish you and all of the others who are returning the best of luck.
But remember, it was your decision and you obviously had the means to do it.
Don't judge those who do not.
PD
