According to IR-2006-96, dated June 19, 2006 from IRS:
The IRS is providing additional time to file 2004 and 2005 individual income
tax returns through October 16, 2006 for certain affected taxpayers hit
hardest by Hurricane Katrina.

Specifically, the IRS is granting additional time through October 16, 2006,
for affected taxpayers to file the following individual income tax returns:

2004 individual income tax returns, originally due on April 15, 2005, for
which taxpayers obtained an extension of time to file until October 15,
2005, and for which the previous grant of disaster relief postponed the due
date to August 28, 2006.

2005 individual income tax returns, originally due on April 15, 2006, for
which the previous grant of disaster relief postponed the due date to August
18, 2006.

This additional postponement of time is not available for any other
time-sensitive acts besides these two types of returns.

Another important issue is the 2006 quarterly estimated tax payments
deadlines. The following is the guidance received just recently:

Q: Do I have more time to make my quarterly estimated tax payments?

A: Yes. Affected taxpayers have until August 28, 2006, to make estimated
tax payments that were due on or after August 29, 2005, and before August
28, 2006. For individual income taxpayers, the time to file a 2005 Form
1040 has been postponed until October 16, 2006. If such a taxpayer is
unable to make the first and second quarter estimated tax payments for tax
year 2006 (originally due on April 15, 2006, and June 15, 2006) by August
28, 2006, or the third quarter estimated tax payment for 2006, by September
15, 2006, because the taxpayer cannot determine a proper estimate based on
tax year 2005 taxable income due to the disaster, then the taxpayer may
request relief from the estimated tax penalty if the taxpayer receives a
notice asserting the penalty. The taxpayer can call the IRS Disaster
Hotline at 1-866-562-5227, or attach a statement to the penalty notice,
requesting a waiver under section 6654(e)(3)(A). That section provides that
no estimated tax penalty shall be imposed if the IRS determines that by
reason of casualty, disaster, or other unusual circumstances the imposition
of the penalty would be against equity and good conscience. Any potential
relief from the estimated tax penalty under this section is limited to the
payments for the first three quarters of tax year 2006, and further limited
to the period August 29, 2006, through October 16, 2006 (or September 16,
2006, through October 16, 2006, for the third quarter payment due on
September 15, 2006). The request for a waiver should include the reasons
why the estimated tax payment could not be made on time or why the estimate
was inaccurate.
