While Louisiana politicians were snapping at each other over the issue of
raising money by using tolls on the Interstate roads, on Saturday, political
love was in the air.

The Alliance For Good Government (an Orleans-region organization) held its
Annual Awards Banquet and while the hotel ballroom in New Orleans was full
of elected officials and political-wannabees, on stage it mattered very
little if one was a Republican, Democrat or none-of-the-above.

The legislators honored were state Sen. Walter Boasso, Jefferson Parish
Councilwoman Jennifer Sneed, R-Arabi; state Sen. Ann Duplessis, D-New
Orleans; and U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon, D-Napoleonville;

Ironically, Boasso received the award from the St. Tammany Parish chapter
for his work on levee reform while his main district is St. Bernard Parish.

Virtually all of the recipients emphasized that unity was needed to ensure
community growth. The Alliance is a nonpartisan organization. The Emcee
for the event was Jeff Crouere
