Are you sure this works?  The dishwasher is connected to the sewer system.
Old dishwashers used to get full of sewer muck after a flood.  Maybe the newer ones have corrected that problem.

You are right about them being easy to find.  I'd just be sure to put things in ziplock freezer bags first.
