5 run for JP in Arabi district
Voters will decide in Saturday election

Five candidates are seeking the open Ward A justice of the peace post in St.
Bernard Parish. 

The Arabi area seat opened when Karl Scheurmann resigned the office
following Hurricane Katrina. The election is Saturday. 

Seeking the office are John "JJ" Cangelosi, a Democrat; Sallie O. Jones, no
party; Ronny LaHoste, a Democrat; Peter E. Rusck, who lists his party as
other; and Barbara Stout St. Germain, a Republican. 

A runoff, if needed, would be Nov. 7. 

The winner will fill the unexpired portion of Scheurmann's term, which ends
in 2008, St. Bernard Parish Clerk of Court Lena Torres said.
