The income tax deadline for filing tax returns for both Federal and State is
October 16th. This date is equivalent to the traditional April 15th
deadline. There are two penalties "failure to file" and "failure to pay".
You can eliminate the failure to file by filing an extension request by
October 16th if you feel you are STILL not ready to file your tax returns.
If there is any money due on the return it is due October 16th. There is no
extension for that. If there was we will all do that. Usually the Federal
return is requring no tax liability because of the losses sustained.
However, it would be wise to review the State return since they do not
recognize any itemized deductions or the Hurricane losses.
