St. Bernard Parish's community development office will be open this weekend
for residents to sign up for free voluntary demolition of their
storm-damaged homes and businesses.

The deadline to sign up for the program is Sunday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will pay 100 percent of the
demolition costs until Dec. 31. Beginning Jan. 1, the agency will seek a 10
percent local share of the demolition costs, which St. Bernard Parish
officials might have to pass along to home and business owners.

Parish officials say that by the end of the year, they should be able to get
to all homes and businesses signed up prior to the Sunday deadline.

The Office of Community Development for St. Bernard Parish government will
be open today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The
office is on the second floor of the parish government building at 8201 W.
Judge Perez Drive, Chalmette.

Home and business owners also can register online at www.sbpg.net.
