Governor Blanco Leads Investment Mission to New York

NEW YORK - October 26, 2006 - Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco continued her investment mission in the nation's financial capital Thursday by opening the New York Board of Trade coffee market. Governor Blanco is leading members of the Louisiana Economic Development team and the Committee of 100, a group of Louisiana business leaders, on this three day trip to meet with members of the investment banking community and national business and trade media to discuss investment opportunities across Louisiana.

This morning's ceremonial market opening followed a morning meeting with the Board of Trade. Accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu and Committee of 100 members, Governor Blanco observed aggressive coffee and cocoa futures trading. Louisiana is second only to the Port of New York City in coffee exports.

"The activity on the trading floor is exhilarating," said Governor Blanco. "It only reinforces the need for Louisiana to be in the game when it comes to tapping into the investment potential of our nation's business sector. That's why I'm here making sure when companies decide on projects worthy of their dollars, Louisiana is first in their minds. Louisiana is a land of opportunity."

Today Governor Blanco will continue meeting with investment bankers and key business decision makers. The trip coincides with the annual meeting of Louisiana's Committee of 100.
