Sweet as Sugar: Governor Blanco congratulates LSU Tigers for team's Sugar Bowl Berth

This evening the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced invitations to the LSU Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the January 3, 2007 game. Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco placed a personal call to LSU Head Coach Les Miles congratulating him and the LSU football team as the announcement was made public. The return of the Sugar Bowl Classic home to New Orleans is extra sweet for LSU fans because the Tigers are making a record 13th appearance in the game.

Statement by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco:

"I know many of us were huddled around TV sets awaiting BCS bowl announcements today. This evening I called LSU Coach Les Miles to congratulate him and the LSU football team for their selection to the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Our LSU Tigers had another exceptional year and I reminded Coach Miles how proud we are of the team's performance on and off the field. Fans across our state share a tremendous sense of excitement for this team. LSU's participation in the Sugar Bowl undoubtedly makes this signature event's return home to Louisiana extra sweet for all of us. LSU will take to the field of the newly renovated Louisiana Superdome for the first time and Tiger fans can't wait to cheer the team on. The stage is set for a thrilling match-up that will be another great moment in LSU history."
