Landlords Register Hundreds of Properties on LAHousingSearch.org, New State-Wide Housing Locator

BATON ROUGE, La. - In preparation for the upcoming state-wide launch, LAHousingSearch.org is expanding each day with the addition of detailed listings of available rental properties. The site already lists detailed information on over 400 available rental units and is currently being utilized by 160 property providers to promote their vacancies.

The site is designed to match property owners who have rental property with individuals seeking to rent an apartment or house. Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco's office, along with the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and the Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA), are sponsoring this valuable service.

"As expected, the number of safe, affordable and comfortable units listed continues to grow," said LRA Housing Taskforce Chairman Walter Leger. "We look forward to launching the site and providing renters with a quick and easy resource for finding affordable housing free of charge."

LAHousingSearch.org offers rental property owners, including providers of critically needed affordable and special needs housing, a place to advertise their properties at no cost, while allowing renters to easily find property that fits their needs. The online service is supported by a toll-free bilingual call center that assists landlords with listing properties and provides tenants with specific, up-to-date housing information by phone, fax or email.

"We are grateful to be serving the housing needs of the State of Louisiana and pleased with the positive feedback from property providers on how easy the system is to use," said Van Gottel, CEO of Socialserve.com. The number of available property listings continues to climb each day and we look forward to the upcoming public launch".

Authorized agencies will soon begin using the service to locate housing for individuals and families and the site will be launched publicly early next year.

The State of Louisiana joins a growing national movement to provide information on rental housing availability for free by contracting with Socialserve.com, a national not-for-profit dedicated to developing leading-edge, easy-to-use Web applications that give agencies, municipalities and the general public access to tools and information that make it easier to find affordable housing and program information.

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated South Louisiana, claiming 1,464 lives, destroying more than 200,000 homes and 18,000 businesses and inflicting about $25 billion in insured losses. The Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) is the planning and coordinating body that was created in the aftermath of these storms by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to lead one of the most extensive rebuilding efforts in the world. The LRA is a 33-member body which is coordinating across jurisdictions, supporting community recovery and resurgence, ensuring integrity and effectiveness, and planning for the recovery and rebuilding of Louisiana.
