Company buying land in Chalmette

Owners of buildings in the Village Square area of Chalmette can meet
Saturday with representatives of a group that wants to buy the area and
redevelop it. 

A representative of CBO Financial Inc., of Columbia, Md., will be at the St.
Bernard Parish Council office from 9 a.m. until noon. Property owners can
sign sale agreements during the meeting if they choose. 

CBO Financial is offering building owners in Village Square $15 a square
foot. The company wants to redevelop the area into a less densely populated
community of social service agencies and single- and multi-family
residences. 

 
Village Square was heavily blighted before Hurricane Katrina flooded it. 

About half of the area's 60 property owners have agreed to sell to the
company, a St. Bernard Parish government news release said. Property owners
attending the meeting Saturday should bring copies of legal descriptions of
their properties.
