MONDAY: Walter Leger to Testify Before U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee

WHAT: The U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a field hearing titled "Hurricanes Katrina and Rita: Outstanding Need, Slow Progress."

The Committee will hear testimony from federal, state, and local officials on a variety of housing and other recovery programs created for citizens affected by Hurricane Katrina and Rita.

WHO: Walter Leger will testify on behalf of the Louisiana Recovery Authority Board of Directors.

Leger will address the progress of recovery, the challenges that remain and specific policy recommendations to improve the pace and efficiency of recovery efforts.

WHEN: 9 a.m. CT, Monday, January 29, 2007

WHERE: Louisiana Supreme Court, 400 Royal Street, New Orleans

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated South Louisiana, claiming 1,464 lives, destroying more than 200,000 homes and 18,000 businesses. The Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) is the planning and coordinating body that was created in the aftermath of these storms by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to lead one of the most extensive rebuilding efforts in the world. The LRA is a 33-member body which is coordinating across jurisdictions, supporting community recovery and resurgence, ensuring integrity and effectiveness, and planning for the recovery and rebuilding of Louisiana.
